Spay & Neuter

We firmly believe that the vast majority of pets should be spayed and neutered for optimum health. Risks for various types of cancer, life-threatening infections, undesirable behaviors, and the inconvenience of a heat cycle will all factor into the decision.

In the past few years, new information has become available that is changing veterinary recommendations for when to spay and neuter pets. It’s important to have this conversation early in a pet’s life — before six months of age. For some pets, the spay or neuter should be done at six months. For others, it may be as long as 2 years before the procedure is recommended. We will thoroughly discuss the pros and cons of spaying and neutering with you and base decisions on our best medical data, your pet’s lifestyle, and your comfort level with risks and benefits of various options.
